Emigration from Northern Ireland has been a part of life here for generations. Whether it is for economic, personal or social reasons, many people leave Northern Ireland and never return. This so-called 'brain drain' has had an impact on our economy, and arguably has hindered a shared and progressive Northern Ireland from being built.
To discuss this issue more deeply, Alliance Worldwide and Alliance Youth are hosting a joint panel discussion to explore the impacts of the 'brain drain' and how to address it. We particularly encourage members to join and share their own experiences of emigration, and their thoughts on how Alliance can address it.
We are very pleased that Dr Ben Harper from the independent thinktank Pivotal Public Policy Forum will be joining us. Pivotal recently conducted a research project examining the educational migration from Northern Ireland and the factors driving it. A summary of their research can be viewed here. Ben will be joined on our panel by Stewart Dickson MLA (Economy Spokesperson).
