> With Masters degrees in both chemistry and business, Alan has worked as a chemistry teacher, in the health services of the USA and UK, and finally in local commercial industry in NI. He now runs his own small business.

> Developed a strong interest in the effects we have on the environment, through studying the effects of pollution on the upper atmosphere.

> Keenly interested in education provision. With two daughters at a local primary school, he is an active member of the local PTA and strongly supports the growth of integrated education.

> Has actively worked with David Ford in the South Antrim area for several years helping him to campaign on planning and environmental issues.

> Strongly advocates a revision of planning laws, which would allow some form of appeals process for members of the public.
