Coleraine Alliance Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick

Coleraine Alliance Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick has condemned the shooting of a teenage boy in the Crescent area of Coleraine on Thursday night. Two armed men shot the young man in both legs.

Cllr Fitzpatrick said: "This incident was akin to some of the horrors of the past that Northern Ireland is attempting to move away from. This attack was brutal and inexcusable.

"I simply can not imagine the physical and mental anguish that this boy went through when the armed men broke into his house. This shooting has sent shockwaves through the local community. This normally quiet residential area has been rocked by this despicable attack.

"My thoughts go out to the young man and his family, and I hope that he makes a full and speedy recovery.

"I would urge anybody with information about this attack to contact the police. We must not allow the people behind this shooting to be allowed to walk the streets without facing justice in the courts."
