East Antrim Alliance MLA Seán Neeson has welcomed the announcement of the upgrade of the A2 road between Carrickfergus and Belfast, but is disappointed that the project will not be completed until 2013. The road is due to become a dual carriageway.

Séan Neeson MLA stated: "I strongly welcome announce of the upgrade of the road between Carrickfergus and Belfast; however, I am disappointed that the project will not be completed until 2013.

"I have campaigned for these improvements for over 30 years and this announcement is long overdue. I would appeal to Northern Ireland Railways to provide extra trains on the Larne line while this work is being carried out.

"This road upgrade will help strengthen local businesses because of improved infrastructure, and I would urge on the Minister to re-think his timetable and get this project completed as soon as possible."
