Lo calls for more police patrols following sexual assault in South Belfast10.13.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 11th Sep 2008
Alliance South Belfast MLA Anna Lo has called upon the police to increase patrols following another sexual assault in South Belfast. The assault happened on Apsley Street in Belfast in the early hours of Wednesday morning. There have been a number of sexual assaults in recent months in South Belfast, around Botanic Gardens and near the city centre. Anna Lo MLA said: "The police must act now and increase patrols to make sure that there are no more of these attacks. "This attack happened quite close to the city centre which is worrying as it appears that those who carried out this attack were undaunted by the large number of people who would have been in the area at that time. "I am extremely concerned at the growing trend of assaults of this nature. I hope that more is done to prevent them such as providing more free personnel alarm and increasing the level of police patrols. I would caution women against walking alone after dark in the city. "My thoughts are with the victim and I would urge anybody with information on this attack to contact the police." ENDS
