Lynch condemns those who left firebombs in North Belfast2.26.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 12th Aug 2008
Alliance North Belfast representative Gerry Lynch has condemned those who left three incendiary devices at addresses in Halliday's Road, New Lodge Road and North Queen Street. The bombs were described as viable but have been made safe by the army. Gerry Lynch, who is Executive Director of the Alliance Party, said: "This is totally appalling. People could have been injured or worse, had these devices not been diffused. Those behind these bombs must not be allowed to get away with these crimes - they must be brought to justice and prevented from causing any more trouble. "Northern Ireland is moving forward to a peaceful and shared future. Incidents like these merely strengthen the resolve of people who want to rid this region of violence. "I am sure many people would have thought that this type of incident was a thing of the past but unfortunately this is not the case. There is still a small minority that still believe that violence is the only way to achieve their aims, but everybody else has moved away from this despicable mindset. The use of devices such as these achieves nothing except to increase support for those who are opposed to violence. "I would call on anybody with any information on these incendiary devices to contact the police immediately." ENDS
