Alliance Health spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has expressed shock and anger at news that some home help services are being cut, saying the state has an obligation to fulfil its duty of care for older people.

Opposition MLA Kieran McCarthy stated: "The cuts in home help services in Northern Ireland in recent weeks are totally outrageous.

"The state has a real duty of care to those vulnerable members of society who have worked all their lives and now need some assistance in their everyday lives. They must not abandon this duty of care and I would appeal to Health Trusts to rethink these cut and provide the home help services that our older people need and deserve."
