Alliance Economy Spokesperson Ian James Parsley has called for a fundamental review of Invest NI, in line with the recommendations of the second Varney Report.

The North Down Councillor stated: "After six years of operation, any new business would be reviewing its practices. The same must apply to Invest NI.

"The Executive has placed great emphasis on the work of Invest NI in making the economy its number one priority. This can only work if Invest NI is primed to deliver the success demanded by the Executive's own Programme for Government.

"The story so far would appear to be one of some success, but also significant frustration within the business community. The outcome of a review should be an organization which builds on its strengths, but also one which reacts more appropriately to the demands and work methods of the private sector rather than government departments.

"For Invest NI to continue being taken seriously as a promoter of best business practice, it must ensure it implements this itself. A review would be a helpful way forward."
