North Down Alliance MLA Stephen Farry has welcomed news that local armed services personnel could be given homecoming parades. Discussions are currently underway with Belfast and Castlereagh Councils regarding the organisation of parades and Dr Farry praised the Newsletter's campaign on the issue.

Dr Stephen Farry stated: "I am very pleased that plans are afoot to organize homecoming parades for local armed services personnel.

"Irrespective of people's opinions regarding the merits of the interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan, our troops deserve much credit for their bravery in the line of duty. The whole community should be given the chance to show their appreciation for the work of local troops overseas.

"The Newsletter's campaign has been the driving force behind today's good news and I would like to praise their stance on the issue.

"The courage of armed services personnel on duty has been admirable and they deserve recognition for the work that they have carried out in trying to deliver peace and stability."
