Hendron praises bravery of man who saved neighbour in fire

Belfast Alliance Councillor Maíre Hendron

Local Alliance Councillor Maíre Hendron has praised the courage of a man in East Belfast who saved his neighbour from a house fire. The man was rescued from the fire in his home in Avoniel Road last night.

Pottinger Councillor Maíre Hendron said: "This was a real act of bravery and the man's neighbour deserves fulsome praise for his courage.

"This fire illustrates how important it is for people to have working smoke alarms fitted in their homes. There can be no clearer warning to people who do not already have alarms fitted in their homes than a horrific incident like this.

"I hope the man who was rescued makes a full and speedy recovery."
