Alliance Coleraine Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick has welcomed the news that security staff will be introduced to the Causeway hospital following several recent attacks on members of staff.

Cllr Fitzpatrick said: "This is good news that the staff at the Causeway hospital will now have some security protection. But it is also sad that we have had to come to this.

"The members of staff who were attacked at the Causeway hospital were just trying to do their job, hopefully now these extra security measures will make sure that they can get on with their work without worrying about being attacked.

"I hope that the Health Minister will make sure that all hospitals through out Northern Ireland have security where it is needed."
