Newtownabbey Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell has praised police in Newtownabbey for being pro-active and deploying quad bikes for officers to use to apprehend quad riders causing problems around the area. Two quad bikes have been procured by police in Newtownabbey.

Cllr Tom Campbell, who is Chair of Newtownabbey District Policing Partnership Board said: "I want to praise police in Newtownabbey for taking this radical step in order to combat the problem of people riding quad bikes in a dangerous manner.

"This move will make it easier for local police to apprehend quad bike users who are a danger to the public.

"This additional option for police shows that the local force can adapt to new environments and changing trends.

"It is very encouraging to see this type of pro-active thinking on policing. This is a pioneering move that other police forces should consider."
