Castlereagh Alliance Councillor Michael Long has slammed those involved in a paramilitary-style attack which took place in Braniel in East Belfast. The attack took place at the rear of houses in Ravenswood Park in the area.

Cllr Michael Long said: "This was a savage attack on a young man carried out with an iron bar.

"The intent of this attack is chilling. Such thugs have no place in this society and I would call on people to give any information to the police so that these thugs can be brought to justice.

"We thought we would never see paramilitary attacks in our community again. This cancer on our society still raises its ugly head quite often. We need this reign of terror on the community to end for once and for all."
