Alliance condemns North Belfast shooting as 'despicable'

12.28.00pm GMT Mon 10th Dec 2007

North Belfast Alliance Party Representative Gerry Lynch has hit out at those involved in the shooting of a man in the head and back in North Belfast. The incident took place as the 28 year old man walked through the Ligoniel area of the city last night.

Gerry Lynch said: "The brutality of this incident has shocked the whole community. Those who carry out such despicable acts have no place within our society.

"Thankfully, the victim is not in a critical condition and I wish him a speedy recovery from his injuries. We are living in a new era and we will not let incidents like this hold back progress.

"People should be able to travel around without having to worry about attacks of this nature. The police need the help of anyone with information on the incident in order to get those involved off our streets."
