McCarthy expresses sadness over devastating Omagh house fire

Alliance Chief Whip Kieran McCarthy MLA has expressed his sadness over the house fire in Omagh in which it is feared all seven members of the family died. The fire took place at Lammy Crescent in the Brookmount Estate at 5am this morning.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: "I would like to express my sincere condolences to the relatives of this family. This is one of the most devastating fires that Northern Ireland has ever seen.

"This tragedy will have caused a massive amount grief in the wider community and I am sure that local residents will be rallying around the relatives and comforting those in shock at this most difficult of times.

"I would urge everybody in the wake of this sad event to be extra vigilant in their homes and workplaces against potential fire hazards.

"This horrific tragedy leads me to call on people to make sure that have smoke alarms installed in their homes. They should check them on a weekly basis to make sure they have a working battery and that there are no faults in the alarms."
