Potential job losses in Ards are devastating

Strangford Alliance MLA Kieran McCarthy has expressed shock at plans which could lead to the loss of 70 jobs at the firm Regency Spinners in Newtownards. The news emerged today and Cllr McCarthy said that the plans are devastating

The Ards Councillor said: "The plans which would see 70 jobs being lost in Newtownards would be totally devastating.

"It is an absolute disgrace that the employees received so little notice as regards the situation at the company.

"This news is even more catastrophic given that Christmas is only around the corner and everyone knows about the financial pressures that go with it. The lack of clarity over whether or not there are going to be any job loses makes the situation even worse."
