Alliance Executive Director and North Belfast Constituency representative, Gerry Lynch, has condemned the threats on Sinn Féin councillors in North Belfast and Newtownabbey by dissident republicans.
Gerry Lynch said: "I might have many disagreements with Sinn Féin representatives but they have a right to represent their constituents free from fear and threat. More than that, basic decency demands that politicians from other parties show solidarity with other public representatives who are under threat.
"I unreservedly condemn this attack on democracy.
"Dissident republicans have nothing to offer the people of North Belfast or Northern Ireland. Their support in North Belfast is so paltry that they couldn't even get ten names on a nomination form to stand in the Assembly elections this year.
"It is not often that I pass on good wishes to Sinn Féin, but I hope that local SF representatives ignore these repellent threats and get on with the job they were elected to do."
