Coleraine Alliance Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick has strongly welcomed plans for a massive regeneration project for part of Coleraine's town centre. The consultation on the scheme which will take in the town's Abbey Street and Mall car parks was announced today by Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie.

Cllr Barney Fitzpartick said: "I strongly welcome the regeneration announcement from the Minister today. It will help revitalise the town and boost the local economy with the creation of new jobs.

"This exciting project will be of great benefit to the entire region. Hopefully there will also be a new hotel built in the Harbour area of the town in the near future, and other significant developments to follow. These projects will give the town a much more continental feel and will boost the local tourism industry."
