Alliance Deputy Leader and East Belfast MLA Naomi Long has condemned last night's shop robbery in East Belfast. A young person threatened a shop assistant at the premises on the Holywood Road with a large kitchen knife and took money from a till at 8.50pm last night. The robber then made off towards the Newtownards Road on a blue BMX bike.

Naomi Long MLA, who is on the East Belfast District Policing Partnership, said: "While crime figures in East Belfast have fallen, obviously local people will see that there has been a number of robberies recently in shop premises within a small area, and may be quite alarmed by this.

"There was a robbery on a shop on the Upper Newtownards Road just 48 hours ago, and this spate of incidents illustrates a disturbing trend.

"I would appeal to anyone with information on this or the other recent robbery in the area to contact police immediately."
