Alliance South Belfast MLA Anna Lo has welcomed news that a conference on human trafficking is being held at Queens University today, because she said that the spotlight must be shone on this horrific practice, especially since this week, we saw the sentencing of a man for the murder of a young Chinese woman in North Belfast almost three years ago.

Anna Lo stated: "I am glad to see that Queens University is hosting a conference on human trafficking. The spotlight must be placed on this most horrific of practices.

"This week we saw the sentencing of a man for the murder of a young Chinese woman, Qu Mei Na, in North Belfast almost three years ago. This tragic story highlights the horrific nature of human trafficking.

"This devastating phenomenon must be examined and addressed to stop this practice and to stop the exploitation and abuse of the people who are forced into this extremely dangerous area.

"I am glad that the conference at Queens has attracted many high profile experts in this field from around the world, because we need as much help as possible to combat this problem.
