Alliance Coleraine Representative Yvonne Boyle has praised the efforts of the fire service and local authorities over their excellent work in minimising the crisis following a toxic fire at a factory in Coleraine. 600 houses had to be evacuated overnight following the fire at the medical equipment plant. She also asked the new Executive to act quickly and produce measures to safeguard the jobs at Armstrong Medical.

Yvonne Boyle said: "I wish to take this opportunity to praise the fire service and the other statutory bodies.

"They acted quickly, calmly and effectively in what was an extremely difficult situation. This toxic fire tested the capacity of local services and they averted a potentially tragic situation.

"I hope that a contingency plan can be put in place to ensure the security of the jobs at Armstrong Medical. I would call on the new Executive to act quickly and produce measures to safeguard these positions."
