Alliance Party Economy Spokesperson Seán Neeson MLA has welcomed electricity price cuts stating that its time that local consumers got a better deal. Following the decrease in gas prices, Mr Neeson called on NIE to decrease their prices in line with gas. NIE today announced a 3% price cut, which will come into effect in April.

The East Antrim MLA stated: "I am glad that NIE has finally woken up to the need for price cuts. These cuts are long overdue and they move electricity prices into line with gas prices, which were reduced recently.

"In early February, I called on NIE to reduce their prices following the Phoenix gas announcement, and I am very pleased that they have taken this step

"I am also glad that the prices here are now on a par with the rest of the UK. This represents fairness.

"Its time that local consumers were given value for money and that local utility providers gave them a better deal. Its good to see that this process has started and I will work to ensure it continues."
