Castlereagh Alliance Councillor, Sara Duncan, has welcomed government moves to protect older people from rogue salespersons. Banks will inform trading standards or the police if they believe large sums of money have been withdrawn by an older person to pay a rogue salesperson.

Cllr Sara Duncan said: "I welcome this move by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment as it will provide much needed protection for older people against rogue salespersons.

"We hear of so many horror stories these days on this issue that such protection is long overdue.

"This project will operate in a discrete manner and will hopefully help put an end to the experiences that we so often hear about with rogue salespeople.

"I hope that this scheme will act as a strong deterrent against this type of activity."
