Alliance Deputy Leader and East Belfast MLA, Naomi Long, has expressed her sadness that redundancies at Shorts in East Belfast will come into effect in the next few days.

Naomi Long stated: "I am saddened at news that redundancies at Shorts are about to come into effect.

"Obviously, this is an very regrettable situation for employees, the company and local people.

"This is an extremely difficult time for those affected by these redundancies and their families.

"The government must look into providing more assistance for the people affected to ensure that they can swiftly find alternative employment.

"Both Shorts and the government must work together closely to ensure that the progress they made previously can continue."
