Chair of Young Alliance, Cllr Ian James Parsley

Chair of Young Alliance, Ian James Parsley, has said that today's Alliance by-election win in Coleraine is a lesson to Unionists in democracy.

Cllr Parsley stated: "The people of Portstewart and Portrush have delivered a lesson in democracy to Unionists, who tried to deprive the newly elected Councillor of the seat in the first place.

"This was the first electoral test of any kind post-St Andrews, and Alliance's reputation for hard work at a local level and fair play at all times has rightly won the day.

"The party's first by-election win for over a decade, and our return to elected representation west of the Bann, is indicative that the Alliance message that sectarian politics means stagnated politics is hitting home right across Northern Ireland."
