Newtownabbey Alliance Councillor, Tom Campbell

Newtownabbey Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell, has condemned those that placed a pipe bomb in a DIY store in Newtownabbey. The device was found early this morning and was defused. Tom Campbell praised the authorities for their courageous work in defusing the device.

Tom Campbell said: "I am absolutely sickened by the thugs who plant such devices.

"Those involved showed blatant disregard for the safety of local people.

"This disgusting act further harms local business by further stigmatising Northern Ireland as a place where business is not welcome.

"We are trying to build a stable society and a strong economy. Such incidents have absolutely no place in our society.

"I have the utmost praise for the courage shown by the authorities who swiftly defused this pipebomb.

"I appeal to anyone who has information about this matter to contact police immediately."
