Alliance blasts tribal timewasters and devolution doubters9.58.57am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 2nd Nov 2006
Alliance Party Chief Whip, Kieran McCarthy MLA, has slammed the extremist tribal parties for yet again for casting doubt on whether devolution will be restored. His condemnation comes after the DUP and Sinn Fein issued negative statements about the chances of devolution being restored before the March 2007 deadline. The Strangford Assembly Member stated: "The extremist tribal parties must stop this negativity and get devolution up and running as soon as possible. "Its time that the tribal timewasters changed the record and worked together for once. "This brinkmanship and scaremongering must end now. If the devolution deadlines are not met, we can say goodbye to the prospect of improving Northern Ireland for a political lifetime. "This pathetic posturing is only doing harm. It is wrecking any confidence in the process and hampering economic growth. "This negativity is also hurting all the people of Northern Ireland. Many people are facing devastating rates hikes and water charges, and all that the tribal parties can do is squabble. "Its time to restore devolution and set about improving Northern Ireland for all, instead of harking back to the past and damaging our society and economy." ENDS
