Alliance leader states that any deal must share power, not divide it7.18.25pm GMT Wed 11th Oct 2006
Addressing the Prime Minister, Taoiseach and all parties at St Andrews, Alliance Leader David Ford, has called for progress to build solid and permanent devolution. He stated that any devolution deal must ensure that power is shared, not divided. David Ford said: "Alliance wants to see devolution, but we are not here to paper over the cracks. We are here to build solid permanent structures on the foundation of the Agreement. "The sectarian designation system in the Assembly must be scrapped immediately. Power must be shared not divided. "We need structures that treat every individual fairly, meet the needs of victims and safeguard a shared future. "We are here to make progress for everyone. We will continue to do everything in our power to deliver the prize of devolution for Northern Ireland." ENDS
