Ballymena Alliance Party Representative Jayne Dunlop has condemned as sick those who carried out an incident in Ballymena which led to the burning of a cat in a waste bin fire. The charred remains of a cat was found by police in a bin at a vandalised children's playpark in Dunclug estate in Ballymena yesterday evening.

Jayne Dunlop said: "I strongly condemn those that carried out this sick act of cruelty.

"I am totally disgusted by this incident. I believe that a person's propensity for cruelty to animals can be directly linked to their tendency to violence against humans also.

"Anyone who can carry out such an horrific act is a danger to people as well.

"I would appeal to anyone who has information on this incident to contact police immediately to ensure that further acts of this nature can be prevented."
