Castlereagh Alliance Councillor, Geraldine Rice

Castlereagh Alliance Councillor Geraldine Rice, has called for the introduction of traffic lights at the Brackenfield junction on the Saintfield Road following a traffic accident which took place this morning. A motorcyclist was injured when he collided with a car near the Brackenfield Service Station

Alderman Gereraldine Rice said: "I was saddened to hear about the road accident on the Saintfield Road earlier today.

"Alliance has been campaigning for years for the introduction of traffic lights at this junction, and this incident backs up the need for such measures, to prevent further accidents on this stretch of road.

"Brackenfield have recognised the need for traffic lights and are willing to pay for them themselves. Unfortunately, Roads Service are holding up progress on this issue. It is imperative that lights are installed here in order to lessen the possibility of further accidents in future, and I call on Roads Service to allow such measures to be introduced as a matter of urgency.

"I hope the man injured in the accident makes a swift and full recovery."
