Ford supports governments' measures on location of disappeared3.45.05pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 3rd Aug 2006
Alliance Party Leader, David Ford has backed the UK and Irish governments' announcement of measures agreed with the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains. David Ford said: "I am glad that the Independent Commission's recommendations on seeking further information on the location of the disappeared are being implemented. "The creation of the post of family liaison officer is to be welcomed. I am also glad that the governments have decided to set up a PO Box and confidential phone number which will allow people to give information on the whereabouts of victims to the Commission. "I know from the meetings that the Alliance Party has had with relatives of disappeared that they have suffered grievously for so many years, and their suffering still continues." David Ford concluded: "The governments should not falsely raise the hopes of relatives, but they must make all efforts possible to locate the bodies of the disappeared." ENDS
