Alliance Party Belfast Councillor, Mervyn Jones, has said that to break the political deadlock, parties must work together in the Assembly, the same as they do in City Hall. His comments come on the day that Belfast City Hall celebrates its centenary.

Cllr Jones stated: "Belfast City Hall is a magnificent building and has served the city well in the past century. I am glad to see everyone coming together today to celebrate the centenary of City Hall.

"This beautiful building has hosted many heated debates down the years. In recent times, however, in Belfast City Council, we have proven that all parties across the political spectrum can work together and deliver high quality services for local people. If the DUP and Sinn Fein cannot do this at Assembly level they must stand down.

"Its high time that the DUP and Sinn Fein started working together and made a deal so that we can get devolution up and running again here. If the DUP and Sinn Fein cannot come to some sort of agreement, they must step aside and let progressive political parties deliver better services for Northern Ireland."
