The Alliance Party's youth wing has said that the sectarian murder of a 15-year-old boy in Ballymena is "abhorrent".

Chair, Cllr Ian James Parsley, stated: "This is a sickening reminder of the past.

"Many young people in Northern Ireland do not remember waking up to headlines like this regularly. Right across Northern Ireland, they have been shaken by this appalling act.

"As the family itself has said, 'What is this all about?'

"Why should a family have to go through this? What has it taught anyone?

When is this society going to stop glorifying violence like this?

"The only thing it has illustrated is the ultimate shocking outcome of the scourge of sectarianism. Our thoughts and prayers go to the McIlveen family. Let us reflect on this horror and ensure it is never, ever repeated."
