Consultation of Football Offences Act must proceed without delay - Long

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 27th Apr 2006

Alliance Sports Spokesperson Michael Long has welcomed the announcement that a Football Offences Act will come to Northern Ireland, and said consultation must proceed without delay.

The Castlereagh Councillor and Alliance Vice Chair stated: "It is pleasing that Alliance Party pressure has brought a positive outcome on a Football Offences Act for Northern Ireland.

"The benefits of such an Act can be clearly seen from the way the game and its venues were revolutionized in England over the last 15 years.

"We in the Alliance Party want nothing short of world-class sports facilities and soccer grounds where people from all backgrounds can enjoy the game in comfort.

"The sooner a Football Offences Act is implemented, the faster that can happen."
