The Alliance Party has said the announcement that engineering firm FG Wilson is to create more than 150 jobs in the County Antrim area is proof that Northern Ireland manufacturers can succeed on the world stage. The investment is part of a £47m investment in the research and manufacture of generators for the firm's parent company, Caterpillar. The jobs will be created at plants in Larne, Springvale and Monkstown.

Newtownabbey Deputy Mayor Alderman Lynn Frazer said: "It is great news to learn that local employment and local wealth creation are to be boosted as a result of the outstanding work of a local firm. This is a significant investment creating much needed employment in this area in a strong industry sector. For a parent company of this size to invest such sums here reflects the high level of local skills in this area.

"FG Wilson continues to set the standards in its field, and offers a fine business model to prove that companies can succeed right here in Northern Ireland."
