No excuse for those behind East Belfast arson attack - Long

3.06.27pm GMT Tue 24th Jan 2006

East Belfast Assembly member Naomi Long has slammed those behind an arson attack on a gas pipe which threatened premises nearby.

The leader of the Alliance group on Belfast City Council stated: "There are simply no excuses for people who threaten lives and properly in this way.

"This attack represented the height of irresponsibility. We may be happy that the Fire and Rescue Service and Phoenix Gas officials reacted quickly to ensure residents' safety.

"There is something very wrong with a society where people threaten such danger and we look upon it as 'normal'."
