Long condemns Cluan Place attack

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 14th Jul 2005

Alliance Assembly Member, Cllr Naomi Long MLA, has condemned those behind last night's violence around the Cluan Place interface in East Belfast.

Cllr Naomi Long MLA said: "I strongly condemn the actions of those who carried out these cowardly attacks.

"An escalation of tension in the area is not in the interests of anyone. A great deal of hard work and dialogue have been undertaken in recent times to maintain peace and quiet in the area. The last thing people need is an incident of this nature to upset all that hard work.

"I would appeal to people to exercise restraint and remain calm and I would request that anyone with information on these incidents contact Police immediately."
