Hendron welcomes Pottinger environmental project

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 28th Jun 2005

At the formal initiation of an Environmental Project which is to be implemented in the Madrid Street/Thistle court area, the Alliance representative for Pottinger, Councillor Máire Hendron, welcomed the Project as a first step toward regeneration and harmony.

Councillor Hendron said: "The refurbishment of houses and the creation of a large plantation of trees and shrubs which will result from the implementation of this Project will environmentally upgrade the area.

"This is to be welcomed as a first step towards regeneration and the encouragement of harmonious community relations. The aim of regeneration projects in our City should be the ultimate removal of all physical barriers which divide our community. I look forward to the day when that can be achieved in conjunction with everyone living in a peaceful and prosperous society."
