Campbell has talks on electricity12.00.00am GMT Mon 1st Mar 1999 An Alliance Party delegation including Consumer Affairs Spokesperson Jan Campbell has met recently with the Northern Ireland Consumer Council for Electricity, to discuss the following issues: the price of electricity in Northern Ireland, Scottish Inter Connector, the January storms and the apparent internal communication problem within NIE. Jan Campbell said: "After extensive discussion and largely mutual agreement left our deputation satisfied that there was extensive common ground on our approaches to these issues. We were shocked to find that there were suggestions currently under consideration to abolish the Northern Ireland Consumer Council for Electricity." "Considering that all other regions in the British Isles have similar bodies, it is incomprehensible that the body in Northern Ireland could be scrapped and transferred to the general Consumer Council. In fact the Alliance Party would propose that their remit be extended to deal with all energy consumer issues including Natural Gas." ENDS.
