West Belfast murder condemned

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 31st Jul 1999

The Alliance Party General Secretary, Cllr Richard Good, has condemned the murder of a man in West Belfast this afternoon, and has called for immediate compromise to fill the political vacuum.

Cllr Good said:

"Whatever the motive, the use of violence has no justification in this society, and this afternoon's murder must be condemned."

"This second murder within a week is a worrying development, and indicates an increasing political vacuum. Such vacuums in Northern Ireland are always filled by those who use violence, whether it be against those in their own or from another section of the community."

"St. Patrick's Day speeches in Washington must now be followed immediately by political compromise on the ground here in Northern Ireland before more people lose faith in the political process"
