Alliance Celebrates Human Rights Day12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 2nd Oct 2000 Alliance Equality Spokesperson Eileen Bell has welcomed Human Rights Day when the European Convention on Human Rights is finally incorporated into UK Domestic Law. Eileen Bell said: "Today is a landmark for the protection of human tights in this country. At last, people will e able to have their individual human rights upheld within domestic courts rather than having to take the slow and expensive route through the European Court." "This step is set to revolutionise our constitutional system for the better. Although, there may well be teething problems and frivolous cases taken every person and indeed society as a whole stands to benefit from the knowledge that their rights will be more secure in the future." ENDS.
