12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 25th Sep 2001

Alliance Party Leader Seàn Neeson has expressed his shock at the enormity of job losses announced by Shorts today.

Mr Neeson Says:

"While I expected some redundancies at Shorts because of the tragic events in America on September 11th the number of redundancies announced today will run shock waves throughout all industry in Northern Ireland."

"The fact that Northern Ireland is now part of the global economy I believe that there is an urgent need to set up an economic forum to help us through the present and any future industrial issues".
