Ford calls for more resources for North Belfast policing

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 30th Jul 2002

Alliance Leader David Ford has said that police in north Belfast must have the resources they need to protect all sections of the community there.

The South Antrim MLA was speaking ahead of a meeting with PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Alan McQuillan this morning.

Mr Ford said: "The police in north Belfast are under more pressure than in any other part of Northern Ireland at the moment due to the amount of civil unrest and the serious threat of further terrorist violence and murder."

"What I want to do today is to listen to what the needs of the PSNI there, and work to ensure that they receive an appropriate level of support to deal with not just the sectarian problems, but normal policing duties as well."
