Postal worker threats must be lifted

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 14th Feb 2003

Alliance Deputy Leader Eileen Bell has said loyalist paramilitary threats against postal workers in Belfast must be lifted immediately.

Condemning the threat, Mrs Bell said:

"Enough is enough. Public service workers, whether they are refuse collectors facing threats from republicans or postal workers being threatened by loyalists, are ordinary people who have every right to go about their jobs free from any sectarian intimidation or violence.

"If this is the only strategy the discredited rump of bigots behind this latest threat have, then it is obvious that they have absolutely nothing to offer anyone. After the community united last year to call for all threats of this kind to be consigned to the past, there is no reason why paramilitaries should resurrect such pathetic and cheap tactics again."
