NICCY 'A Right to Protection' welcomed by Hawkins

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 21st Jun 2005

Marjorie Hawkins, Alliance Party spokesperson for Children, has welcomed the report 'A Right to Protection' issued by NICCY.

Mrs Hawkins said, "When parents leave their children with another adult they want to be sure in their minds that their child is in a safe and secure environment. To this end:

1. The Department of Finance and Personnel should take responsibility and issue clear guidelines to departments;

2. The statutory requirement for checking those working with children must be extended by the secretary of State; and

3. A child protection manager should be appointed in every organisation who work with children and young people."
