Alliance welcomes refusal for green belt development12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 1st Apr 2003 Castlereagh Central Alliance Councillor Michael Long has welcomed the decision of the Planning Service to recommend a refusal for a planning application for five detached dwellings and nine apartments on green belt land to the rear of Grey Castle Manor. The recommendation was accepted at a meeting of the Planning Committee of Castlereagh Borough Council. Cllr Long said: "Having worked with residents on this issue for the past number of months, I am delighted that this application has been refused. This decision will help to protect the boundaries of the green belt, which Alliance is committed to retaining. "The majority of future developments must take place on brown-field sites, and I am glad to see that decisions are reflecting these environmental concerns. "This development would have caused great inconvenience to residents in the existing development and traffic levels would have been significantly increased." ENDS.
