Parsley appalled by shooting

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 6th Jun 2005

North Down Alliance Councillor Ian Parsley has condemned a shooting in Redburn where a man nearly lost his life.

The Holywood representative stated: "I am appalled by this is clearly very disturbing incident in which a life was almost lost. This attack amounts to attempted murder.

"It is important that those responsible for this attack are identified, arrested and prosecuted under the full rigour of the law.

"The finger of suspicion is already pointing at local paramilitaries. There is great concern in Holywood at the impact that a very small number of people are having in creating a climate of fear and lawlessness in the community.

"It is important that the police, housing executive and local community work together to reclaim Holywood for the decent, law-abiding majority. I and my colleagues will do everything we can to help this work."
