Alliance concern at East Belfast bogus caller burglaries12.00.00am GMT Wed 9th Feb 2005 East Belfast Alliance Assembly Member, Cllr Naomi Long MLA, has asked people to be vigilant after a number of houses in East Belfast have been targeted by bogus callers early on Tuesday evening. A gang of three or four men posing as Water Service employees robbed houses as far apart as Summerhill, Ballyhackamore, Dundonald and Newtownards. Naomi Long, Chair of East Belfast District Policing Partnership said, "I would encourage anyone who might have information about these burglaries to pass the information on to the police. "I would also encourage people to be vigilant, and be particularly cautious when people call unexpectedly. Genuine callers should have ID and I would also encourage people to call their office to confirm their names and business before allowing them to gain access to your home. A genuine caller will not object to waiting. If people have any suspicion at all about a caller, I would encourage them to refuse entry and contact the police."
