Rathenraw hoax alert condemned

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 6th Sep 2004

ALLIANCE South Antrim MLA David Ford has condemned the actions of those behind a hoax bomb alert in the Rathenraw estate, Antrim, on Saturday night.

The Alliance Leader said: "Clearly, there are some misguided people out there with an agenda that includes raising tensions in Rathenraw. This latest incident, which caused residents much disruption, must be condemned, as hoax alerts must be taken seriously.

"Equally, the security concerns of residents must be taken seriously by the authorities. Everyone, no matter where they are from or what their beliefs, has the right to live free from fear and the threat of paramilitary violence.

"I would call on whoever was behind this attack - as the Red Hand Defenders has been used as a cover-name in the past - to stop immediately."
