Threats against SDLP man's mother condemned

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 6th Jul 2004

THE Deputy Mayor of Larne has condemned threats issued against an SDLP councillor's mother who complained about the erection of flags by the UDA in her estate.

Alliance Councillor Gerardine Mulvenna stated:

"For paramilitaries to threaten anyone for complaining about a flag is absolutely disgraceful, but when an older woman is confronted like this, it deserves to be utterly condemned. People are entitled to live in peace free from intimidation, and Larne has more than enough flags at the moment.

"This brave woman's actions are in stark contrast to the cowardly threats made against her."
